Private pilot was a Proof-of-Concept application. Many things were getting "proofed" with this project. We were using Documentum as the back-end. We stored XML documents with screen text and application manifests, the Flash components from my framework, graphics, audio, and video there. We could export the complete application from Documentum to the Xyleme LMS in different configurations. We wanted to do that same thing with text books or any other type of digital content to create e-Learning, PDF books, and websites to customer specifications.
The final hurdle was to get the tech writers training in DITA and switch to an XML-based writing tool like Adobe FrameMaker. The department lacked the necessary leadership to make that happen.
